inspiration...

Maddison Gratiana loved her dalmatian more than life itself. Ethel was her buddy, her constant companion, her reason for wanting to go home.

On the wings of angels and with a kiss goodbye, Ethel
crossed the Rainbow Bridge to Heaven on a Spring day in 2008. Understanding her broken heart, Maddison's dear friend Rhonda assured her that someday there would be another dog to claim her love, promising that her heart would tell her when.

Offering proof that her promise was real, Rhonda told Maddison about a homeless dog and her puppies.
The story of Flapjack's journey to find forever love with Rhonda held inexplicable hope for Maddison.

One day, in the midst of bringing the story of paNcakE & FLapJacK to life, Maddison's sister told her about a puppy who was looking for a home, a puppy who was the last little guy of his litter to be adopted. Maddison listened to her heart, she knew it was time to love again...Gucci Gratiana is proof that Rhonda was true to her word!

paNcaKe & FLaPjacK
is a collaboration of love between Maddison Gratiana and her cousin, Oregon artist Bonita Hansen Taylor!

THE STORY

paNcaKe & FLaPjacK is a true story of puppy love and happily-ever-after....a story to prove that everything happens for a reason and that it all happens the way it is meant to.

Coincidence, timing and fate led to the rescue of Pancake and her puppies from a makeshift home beneath the porch of an abandoned house. Happily-ever-after took a detour when Miss Pickie Choozie had second thoughts about her first choice in giving one of the puppies a new home...

SHARING THE STORY...

The story of paNcaKe & FLaPjacK has been shared with the young and the young-at-heart from coast to coast.  In speaking with an assembly of elementary school children in her hometown of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Maddison Gratiana was greeted with a
sea of little hands raised in the air when she finished reading the story. They asked how long it took to write the book (about a year), if Pancake and Flapjack were alive and well (yes!) and they wanted to know when the book would be a movie (Disney has not yet called!).

Maddison Gratiana is always pleased to share the story of paNcaKe & FLaPjacK with schools and other groups in the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin area.

of her grandson! A talented artist, Bonita shares her love of art with the reader of paNcake & FLaPjacK, bringing the story to life with original watercolor paintings.

Bonita and her husband Larry make their home in Oregon City, Oregon...often answering the call of the open road.
